The Berufsakademie der BSB GmbH BEST-Sabel gemeinnützige Bildungsgesellschaft (Professional Academy of BSB GmbH BEST-Sabel non-profit Educational Organisation) is a training center in the capital city of Berlin which has been providing theoretical and practical skills and training to young people - especially with an immigrant background - for their careers, based on its more than twenty years of experience in the vocational training sector and its wide educational profile. The increasing opportunities to live and work in other European countries imply to adapt the contents of our professional training more and more to the international requirements of the European labor market, so that our students can be equipped with the corresponding technical, practical and social skills. Nothing is better suited than gaining practical experience in a European company. Since 2004, we therefore have successfully used a wide variety of mobility projects of the "Leonardo da Vinci" programme.
With the topic "The effects of current trends in the European labor market on the requirements of vocational training" we want to go one more step towards internationalization of our training profiles at the Berufsakademie.
The project extends over two years and is carried out in four stages (Flows). The total of 38 participants of this project come from the training areas of economics (one Management Assistant for Wholesale and Foreign Trade, one Management Assistant for Business Administration), tourism (20 officially recognised Assistants for International Tourism), fashion design (four officially certified Fashion Designers) and product design (eight officially certified Assistants for Product Design) as well as four future educators. They will complete their internships apart from Spain, France and Portugal also in countries like Sweden, Poland and Turkey. This diversity makes us expect highly nuanced findings that will give our training a completely new incentive and at the same time prove whether and how the participants can interact with their previous professional training in European companies.
To draw conclusions about the contents of vocational training in Germany and for our training at the BEST-Sabel Berufsakademie specifically, the participants also have to do a research according to the topic of the project in their partner companies to answer the following questions and write corresponding reports:
• What is appreciated about our education in the host countries?
• What are the differences regarding the work processes and working conditions when compared to German companies?
• Which specific competence, abilities and skills are emphasised in the European partner companies?
The participants will be prepared by the project manager, the subject teachers and heads of department of the Berufsakademie for the internship and constantly accompanied during their stay abroad. The contacts with the European partners will be further developed and intensified during that time. We also keep open options to attract more partners for cooperation and to involve other professional areas.
The project aims at two main results:
1 With the topic "The effects of current trends in the European labor market on the requirements of vocational training" we will contrast all training fields of the Berufsakademie with the requirements of competence, knowledge and skills in the European area and consider which conclusions must be drawn for an innovative and fit-for-Europe training and what can the BEST-Sabel Berufsakademie contribute especifically. The aim is to submit an application for a strategic partnership starting in 2015 with one or more educational institutions in one or more European partner countries to develop a common training field in design or tourism industry.
2 This project will bring very individual experience for each participant based primarily on his/her professional training. This includes not only the linguistic and technical skills, but also aspects regarding the development and promotion of their personality. Questions like these: Do I want to live and work in another European country? Has my internship shown to me the professional opportunities I would like to realize? Did I get to know other opportunities for my professional development through my internship? Have opened up new perspectives for me, for example, to study abroad?
This project will serve as a starting point for further projects including the core idea of the comparability of European vocational education and professional qualifications.
