Application No. 1: Teacher Training for CLIL (Content and Language integrated learning) Teachers of Humanities in Great Britain. Participant: Mrs Simone Müller Our school is adviced by the minister of ecucation of the state of Baden-Württemberg to establish a bilingual class starting next year from 5th grade that will lead our students to the International Abitur. Some subjects like social studies, economy, biology or geography will be held in English. This will prepare our students to attend international universities and to be successful in an international working environment. Their language skills and international competence will be trained. Our college, Mrs Simone Müller is a teacher of social studies and English at our school. She experienced training as a CLIL teacher during her teacher training and has been successfully integrating CLIL into her social studies lessons in grade 9 and 10 since then. In the future Mrs Müller will have the task to develop CLIL teaching materials and hold CLIL lessons . She would appreciate to take part in a teacher training in Cheltenham, Great Britain which was especially developed for CLIL teachers of humanities like economy or social studies. Mrs Müller hopes to gain new teaching experiences, exchange experiences and make new friends with fellow CLIL teachers, evaluate her own teaching experiences, take part in lectures on the subject of CLIL, go on a excursion to Oxford and to gain insight into everyday life on British schools. We hope to gain new impulses by Mrs Müller's experiences for our CLIL staff. Most of our staff has not been trained in CLL yet. Mrs Müller will after her return be able to train her fellow CLIL teachers at our school. She is also an educator for teacher trainees and interns at our school and will be able to train them in CLIL. Application No. 2: Teacher Training for Teachers of French as a foreign language in France. Participant: Mrs Dorothea Bachert. Spending time in France in total immersion in French is certainly the best and fastest way to brush up and improve one’s language skills as well as intercultural understanding. Furthermore, the above mentioned teacher training is particularly enriching in broadening one’s didactic horizon and in learning about new teaching methodology. Studying a language and intercultural differences in the country itself helps enormously to understand the other culture and to be able to share this knowledge with one’s students in order to help them to develop into a “European citizen” who is not afraid of foreign cultures. Thus, not only the participants themselves but also their colleagues and students will profit in the long run.
