Associação Cultural e Juvenil Batoto Yetu Portugal
Start date: May 2, 2016, End date: Dec 1, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

A volunteer from Belgium will work for six months with Associação Cultural e Juvenil Batoto Yetu Portugal (BYP). The current project will allow the volunteer to learn about BYP’s work in the field of arts and social integration, to take part in the regular activities or to suggest and help to implement new ideas, contributing to the social development and inclusion of children and youth from underprivileged suburban neighbourhoods, mostly in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (Oeiras County). The volunteer will be involved in the BYP’s daily routines that involve assisting in the planning and execution of workshops and other artistic activities (e.g. african dance and music, construction of masks, theater). He/she will be supporting two main iniciatives: 1) Project Integarte, community-based project supported by the High Comission for Immigration and Intercultural Dialogue (ACIDI), directed at children and youth, mostly 7-24 years-old, from underpriviledged families. This project has a large scope of action, focused on the folowing axis of intervention: school integration, integration in the labour market, community participation, digital inclusion and youth entrepreneurship; 2) Project directed to Immigrants, supported also by ACIDI, which develops several actions of direct support to the immigrant community and to raise public awareness to all matters related to the promotion of tolerence, diversity and social inclusion (e.g. promoting conferences and workshops).
