PROJECT
FINISHED
The present project stems from analyzing the current situation of teaching oral proficiency in language schools for adults, especially for three levels defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL): A2, B1 and B2. Our focus is on oral communication after verifying that it is a common flaw in students of a number of levels and languages. Therefore, we have decided to create an educational portal which is aimed to serve as a base for exchanging views, activities and information and providing a simple and effective tool by means of which students and teachers will be able to find answers to potential problems in the foreign language learning/teaching process.Another product we are aiming at is an analysis, with which we intend to reflect on mistakes in teaching oral communication skills and determine which aspects would be the most efficient to consider. After a sequence of activities, conferences and courses on how to improve oral communication and after testing the portal by using it, we will present and disseminate the results obtained amongst the educational centres by means of lectures, workshops or conferences.OBJECTIVES: • To ensure that the portal helps us to achieve greater efficiency in teaching languages to adults.• To propose institutional improvements, integrating best practices and new educational and assessment methodology, in daily and professional activities in cooperation with other similar organizations.• To establish and strengthen the cooperation with the European partners by means of the new portal to increase the quality of language schools in Europe. • To promote continuous improvement of the teaching and learning of oral skills and the use of Information and Communication Techonology (ICT) as a tool to enable foreign language teaching/learning in a dynamic and effective way.• To produce a methodology guidebook focused on oral communicative skills in the teaching practices of our educational institutions.• To disseminate the results obtained through two intellectual products: an educational portal and a guidebook to improve the oral competence. The project will involve three countries (Spain, Austria and Poland), where each one will share their expertise in the field of foreign language teaching/learning:-EOI-Alzira (Official School of Languages, Spain): an organization specialized in teaching languages, which will provide its porficiency in teaching practices and drafting certification exam papers.-APEOICVA (Official School of Languages Teachers’ Association in the Valencian Community, Spain): the association will disseminate the project through several media (conferences, courses , website, etc.).-Austria: for its expertise in the management of centers, acquired during its cooperation with EAQUALS, they will share these good practices with the centres involved in the project. In addition, as experts in training examiners and teachers, this institution will enhance the participants' professionalism in oral competence.-Poland: as a marketing expert, this entity will address the creation and edition of the tools which will enable the distribution of the project and its intellectual products. The Project will have as its main base an education portal from which we will work and spread our ideas and a guidebook in which we will emphasize the most effective methodologies and guidelines for a better teaching and assessment process. The different stages to reach these two products are described in the project implementation. In order to achieve our goals, we will study and compare the methodologies used in the participating countries (communicative, inductive, deductive approach and suggestopaedia and learning in tandem) before and after this iniciative, with the collaboration of expert psychologists, who will give us guidelines on how to formulate relevant questions in surveys. We look forward to improve oral skills in our students, providing more training for teachers, anchoring the CEFRL levels, promoting the use of ICT and thus the quality of language schools and in due course enhancing cooperative work with other schools in other European countries, both public and semi-public.By dint of the portal and our website, all interested parties will be able to obtain training or information and exchange ideas. For greater impact and sustainability of the project, a contract of maintenance of the portal will be drawn for 10 years with the Creative Commons license and once the project is over, we will carry on disseminating its innovative practices so teachers, students and institutions at local, regional, national and European level will be able to benefit from the results. We also believe the project will influence the employability of individuals and will benefit in long term both employees and enterprises and their international relations at cultural and economic level.
