FINISHED
The youth exchange “Art for the Environment” took place on 9-15 November in Kapraluv Mlyn, Ochoz u Brna, the Czech Republic. It gathered 25 participants from 5 countries: the Czech Republic, the UK, Spain, Portugal, Albania. It was organised by Youth and Environment Europe.
The idea for the project came from YEE member organisations and it reflected the need for new creative ideas for workshops and actions aiming to raise environmental awareness. It was suggested to create a youth exchange about using art and creative ideas for environmental projects.
This project brought young people together to learn from each other by exchanging skills, knowledge and experiences in a non-formal setting. During the youth exchange the participants were responsible for facilitating workshops and supporting each other.
The aim of the youth exchange was to provide a space for participants to share and develop their creative skills in order to create environmental projects to support their organisations and communities.
Objectives:
· Develop participants' creative and communication skills to support their personal and professional development.
· Provide a space for intercultural exchange by sharing arts and music from different cultures.
· Explore creative ways to raise awareness and understanding of environmental issues in local communities around Europe.
· Connect participants to their local communities and to each other.
During the youth exchange we used methods based on non-formal education and intercultural learning. They also reflected the needs and expectations of the participants. The participants were also actively involved in sessions. The working methods of the youth exchange involved: research, discussion in groups, debates, presentations, group works, creative workshops, etc.
The project started with ice-breakers, name games and team-building. The first day was dedicated to more general introduction to the topic: first we started with welcome space session and then had sessions about environmental art, environmental projects, specifics of working with local communities. The day finished with NGO market.
The following three days were dedicated to workshops prepared by national groups: creating mud graffiti, nature photography, workshop about biodiversity, upcycling, arboretum, theatre. The last day of the youth exchange was about exploring the Erasmus+ programme, planning follow-up and evaluating the project. The project finished with a small local exhibition in the venue, which national groups prepared for each other.
The results of the project were:
Workshop ideas prepared by the participants. The group leaders send the descriptions of these workshops which were added to the blog and publication.
