Art - Bridge Across the Borders (Art Bridge)

The objective of the project is to enhance cross-border co-operation between Latvian and Lithuanian puppet theatres (Liepaja, Klaipeda and Panevezys) and to develop a network of puppet theatre and street theatre festivals in order to contribute to the cultural life of the border region, while also adding to the attractiveness of the area as a tourism destination. The project idea has developed from a long and fruitful co-operation between puppet theatres in Latvia and Lithuania. However, until now it was based only upon individual projects instead of framework of larger long-term projects. Project allowed partners exchange their knowledge and skills on managing performances, creating different types of puppets and utilizing common cultural heritage in development of performances. The main achievements of the project include organizing five international puppet theatre festivals, master classes, workshops, seminars, children art camps, an exhibition and eight performances in Liepaja, Klaipeda and Panevezys. These performances included plays performed in partner theatres and mixed plays performed in municipalities of the border area. The necessary office and theatre equipment with mobile stage has been purchased to meet project goals. Achievements: Implemented joint projects among cross-border municipalities (units) - 1; Joints culture festivals (units) - 7; Greater interaction among various institutions and people on both sides of the border (a number of joint projects/%) - 1; Workshops - 4; Seminars - 3; Trainings - 3; Study trips - 9; Excibitions - 5; Perfomances - 13; Public events - 10;Within the Project:Five International Puppet theatre festivals, eight performances in Liepaja, Klaipeda and Panevezys - not only rehearsed national plays and perform in partner theatres but as well rehearsed joint play and performed in municipalities of bordering area of Latvia and Lithuania in Liepaja, Klaipeda and Panevezys regions. To implement such activities, was purchased necessary office equipment, theatre equipment and mobile stage. The purchases strengthened organisational capacity of Klaipeda and Panevezys theatres and Performance capacities of Liepaja and Klaipeda Puppet theatres.Culture events provided signifficant input into increasing of attractiveness of the bordering region and strengthening historical and culture ties within the region as well as development of active and sustainable communities. Puppet theatre performances main target group are children and their parents, thus the project provided valuable input into culture education of younger generation.Project activities improved work methods, let the participants to obtain new skills and knowledge on directing, performing, production of performances, festivals, open events and increased artistic level of the mentioned activities as well as improving human and organisatorial capacity of involved partners. Via planned events target groups increased their knowledge and tolerance about culture traditions of neighbouring countries and project promoted culture tourism between both countries.
