Background: There are a lot of art forms. Every European country has its own view on each of these art types and has its fields in which it excels. Objectives: - We are going to develop lessons that will be used by all the involved teachers in the project. This course will also be made available on the EST website. - Teachers will professionalize themselves within certain fields and use their knowledge for the project and after the project’s end. - We want our students to know more about European art, not only on a regional but also on a European level. - Through art we want them to get in contact with other European cultures and languages. - We also want them to improve their English. Participants: - We want to involve as many students as possible through the exhibition, but also during the preparation of the visit. - For each visit we will select four student-participants with interest in art and European meeting. The project will be supported by a group of teachers with interest in the art form (e.g. photography - the web designer, music - music teacher...) and European meeting. Activities: - Every art form is connected with a visit abroad. They all have a similar structure: * Preparation: The students will learn more about the art form dealt with in the local school. They will learn about that typical art form, especially at national basis. If possible they will also create something (e.g. pictures, video…) to take with them to their host country. When necessary the students will also visit a museum concerning the art form. The students going abroad will learn some basics of the culture and language abroad. We can use the knowledge of native speakers, professionals or ex-students who went to those countries (in a previous project). * During the visit: First of all students of several countries will present their national art form to the students and teachers of the other countries. The organising country will organise a course to lift up their knowledge (this can be with visits or course in the school, depending on the art form). Together they will create a product on the basis of theoretical lessons given by a professional and the visits. At the end of the visit there will be an exhibition with the products made by the students. At that exhibition there will also be some space for the previous results of the project, so the local people can see what the project is about. * Post-processing: The product they made abroad will be taken with them to their countries and they will present it to the other students. They will also share their experiences with the other students and teachers to lift up the knowledge of those. There will be a local exhibition with the results of the visit (sometimes it will be the product itself, sometimes it will be with pictures), so the local people can see what the project is about. - results: There will be results at different stages. At the end of the national preparation period, each country will have a kind of end product depending on the art form being dealt with to present to the school, the local community and to be brought to the hosting country to discuss the art form at stake. At the end of each visit there will be an end product created by the European group. This (these) product(s) will be visible in the hosting school and will be presented to the local community during an exhibition. Depending on the kind of art form dealt with copies or pictures of this product will be taken to the home countries and be presented to the schools involved and the local communities. - impact: All the people involved will broaden their knowledge about art forms. The lessons will not be restricted to the national point of view on some art form. This will enrich the classical lessons dealing with art forms. Some students will come into contact with new art forms, because they are not part of the national curriculum. Students will be able to practice these art forms instead of just learning about their existence in a theoretical way. English will be used in a functional way, also going beyond the traditional view of just being a school subject. Through the art forms students will learn about other European cultures. Students will get into contact with other European languages. The national community will get into closer contact with the school which can improve the relationship. - longer term benefits: The knowledge acquired through the project will be shared on the EST-database. Other schools looking for information or inspiration can benefit from that. The knowledge gained by the teachers can be used to extend their lessons in the following school years. Some of the materials that were bought for the project can be reuse during other activities. Students will have broadened their views concerning different art forms and they will have been able to experience the joy of creating something. This might stimulate them to continue being creative with some international friendships.
