End date: Oct 2, 2016
PROJECT
FINISHED
The Youth Exchange “AROMA: design the smell of challenge” will promote creativity and culture, entrepreneurial learning and environment among youngsters and local community. Mainly through recycling and cultural city events, the participants will be involved in the organization of a street parade/event (Festa Amarantina) that offers to the community alternative ways to design their space and activities (reusing and promoting local products), open the society for innovative and creative ideas/proposals and invites all local citizens to participate and have an active role as producers of their own cultural and social needs. This project will be developed by 7 countries (4 program countries - Portugal, Romania, Italy, Greece and 3 partner countries – Egypt, Tunisia and Palestine) and will take place in Amarante (Portugal) during 9 days, from 26/06/2016 till 04/07/2016. It will gather in a balanced way (gender and countries) 28 participants (4 per country), aged between 18-25, and 7 youth leaders. It will also have an Advanced Planning Visit (APV) with all youth leaders from 8th till 11th June 2016 (travel days included) in Amarante. The main objectives are: promote creativity and alternative ways to design urban spaces and activities among youngsters; spread the concept “back to the basic” by stimulating young people to produce their own cultural needs and by reusing and promoting local products; promote entrepreneurial learning among youngsters, also involving the local community and developing creativity and initiative under non formal artistic contexts; raise the spirit of cooperation among youngsters and between them and the community, fostering the values of solidarity and mutual understanding between people from different cultures, especially when working with partner countries.Main activities and methods: during this Youth Exchange the participants will develop several activities using Non Formal Education (NFE) methodologies. The main activities will be centered on (1) how to reuse old bicycles (we will have an open space) and to adapt them to the street parade/event, (2) develop creative cultural ideas and proposals for Festa Amarantina 2016 and (3) organize cultural events such as Euromed Food Day and intercultural nights. We will use different methods (outdoor activities, art and theatre, recycling, simulations, parade and campaigning, intercultural nights, show cooking, exhibitions, etc.) in order to assure that all participants can be involved and have an active role. We will assure a safe atmosphere of intercultural learning where participants can interact and cooperate with the common goal of participation and sharing their cultures and experiences. Results and impact: we expect this Activity to create a new attitude and entrepreneurial skills to young people becoming active members of their societies promoting cultural events and reusing local resources. In this way young people can reflect and understand their role in society and use different NFE methodologies to drive their own ideas, cultural and social needs among community. The impact that this project seeks to create both in the participants and in the local community can be really significant because now more than ever we need to go back to the basic and answer to our own cultural and social needs by producing activities, reusing local resources and applying alternative methods (NFE activities, theatre, visits, simulations, exhibitions, campaigning and outdoor activities) that allow for sure a greater interaction within the group of participants and the community – sense of belonging. This approach encourages youngsters to be more innovative and creative, thus transforming their way of thinking and perceiving reality, passing it to the community.
