PROJECT

Our project is aimed at association members who work actively in beekeeping but lacked of knowledge to output bee products, researchers in the field, technical experts that work on farmer training and extension activities and want to develop himself about alternative bee products.
Although Turkey has 6.011.332 bee hives and annually about 95 thousand tons of honey production capacity as a 2nd country in the world ranking, is experiencing difficulties in exporting. Except honey production, in general pollen and a small amount of propolis products are produced . Although bee products like propolis, royal jelly, apilarnil, bee bread, bee venom and apitherapy applications have taken a wide coverage in recent years in the world; these products are met by imports, because of our breeders’ lack of technical knowledge and incompotence experience in breeding as well as not using of their existing potential. Yet Turkey does not benefited from these products. One of conducted research that aimed to examine relations between awareness of bee products and purchasing frequency in Turkey, have been identified that awareness ratios of honey, pollen, royal jelly, wax and bee venom were 99,4%; 61,6%; 52,8%; 46,4%; 16,3% respectively. It is determined that honey is purchased in every 2 or 6 months and other bee products are never purchased by the majority of participants. This is an important topic to configure production according to consumer preferences in the industry.
The primary task of our beekeepers’ association is to give a direction to the sector. The development and growth of association will give a gained accelaration to the sector.
With the realization of the project;
a. It is aimed that to give an opportunity of observing manufacturing methods of alternative bee products , international education and guidance by coming into contact with EU member countries’ beekeepers for all participants and technical staff. Because of roving beekeeping habitus in Turkey, these manners which obtained from the project will spread out all over the country.
b. Participants having opportunity to test themselves in all subjects related to beekeeping, increase their insufficient professional knowledge, interchange information with European colleagues, overview of European Union beekeepers association, and enhance vocational foreign language are among our potential outputs of the Project.
c. Sharing of the results with other beekeepers that obtained from the Project will cause more accurate breeding and increase variety of bee products; propolis, royal jelly, apilarnil, bee bread and bee venom will be encouraged for production. Raised number of courses for beekeepers, productivity, beekeeping enterprises in our province and also providing socio-economic and cultural ties, establishing specific standards in beekeeping, improving beekeeping ground will be common denomination between countries.
d. One of outcome from the project will be finding an important opportunity to see how European consumer awareness has been established and which implementations have been used.
30 participants who involve the project will set off to Bucharest, Romania between 19- 30 of June 2016 for ten days program ( except two days for travel).
