The event „Arabic Theatre Meeting – Experts exchange Good Practice in Theatre Pedagogy“ is planned for January 2017 in Hanover. 66 specialists from 8 countries will take part in this meeting. It concerns the organisation team from Germany and the partner organisation from France as well as participants from Tunisia, Syria, Morocco, Jordan, Palestine and Egypt. The meeting of the applied drama teachers has “Shelter” as its motto. The focus is on the exchange about methods in the educational theatre work with teenagers with regard to personal as well as social exceptional situations, as circumstances – in which people search shelter – bring with themselves. The project partner on site in Hannover is “Theaterwerkstatt Hannover”, which has its head office in the sociocultural “Kulturzentrum Pavillon”. Beside their own productions, “Theaterwerkstatt Hannover” realizes educational theatre projects with teenagers, young adults and adults regularly and is involved in the educational work. The work of the project partner “Association Ah?” from France is aimed alike. The duration of the “Arabic Theatre Meeting” will be six days, with two additional days for arrival and departure. The 55 participants from the Arabic countries are experienced theatre producers. They bring different methods of educational theatre work with them and every group prepared a production with the subject “Shelter”. There are different main focuses during the theatre meeting. One of them is the mutual qualification of the specialists in workshops, which will be hold from the different groups for the rest of the participants, in which they present their methods in youth work.Another main focus is the work with teenagers on site in Hanover: On the one hand, it concerns a group of unattended teenage refugees under age, with whom methods of performing arts will be tested together. On the other hand, a cooperation with school classes of grade 9-12 from nearby schools is planned. The total of about 100 pupils will operate as mentoring classes with the individual groups of participants, will watch performances and work out productions and topics together. The “Arabic Theatre Meeting” is intended to be wide-going as a platform of the exchange and networking for the participants as well as for the theatre producers and the interested on site, from which cooperations should arise in the future. The extensive accompanying programme offers several starting-points to the participants to get in touch in different ways with the interested guests and other specialists as well as decision-makers on site. An exhibition with public discussion about the topic “Shelter” also belongs to it. Moreover, the organisation team prepares a far-reaching network meeting of experts. There will be encounters to theatres as well as with the city council and representatives of Hanover. This structure and variety of offers for advanced training and networking for the participants is significant for this meeting.Besides the teenagers, other interested guests as well as representatives of the press are allowed to be part of this event. They should support the discussions about the productions on the one hand and should contribute to the examination of methods presented. The reports, on the other hand, are for documentation as well as for spreading the results of the “Arabic Theatre Meeting” to the interested public and professional audience.A preparatory accompanying programme is set up to prepare the teenagers and the interested public for the topic “Shelter” and their participation in the “Arabic Theatre Meeting”. In cooperation with “Kommunalen Kino Hannover” (Koki) a film series about Arabian cinema should take place two weeks before the theatre meeting. The film programme – which will be shown in Koki – will enable references to the theatre groups and productions of the meetings of experts. It can concern actresses and actors or directors, who play a role in theatre as well as in film. Another point of reference it the topic “Shelter” as well as the methods of realization. The participants from the Arabian countries deepen their methodological skills with the participation in the meeting. They get insights into the European educational theatre theory and have the broad opportunity to interlink. The participation in the advanced training measures in Europe is a valuable reference and will be certificated with the Youthpass.
