APREDIZAJE BASADO EN PROYECTOS COMO ESTRATEGIA PARA REDUCIR EL ABSENTISMO ESCOLAR
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

PROJECT BASED LEARNING AS TOOL TO REDUCE SCHOOL ABSENTEEISM AND DROPPING OUT OF SCHOOL. The main objective of our project is to reduce school absenteeism and dropping out of school. It is not possible to improve the performance of our students at school if they leave before finishing their studies because of they are not motivated due to the lack of interests or expectations which is encouraged by the socio-cultural context in which our school is located. Our teachers need to master new organization and methodological strategies to increase the motivation of our students in order to prevent students’ dropping out of school so they can finish their compulsory education and they also increase their interest in taking other non-compulsory studies to continue their academic training. The acquisition of these new strategies will have an impact in our school as we are going to implement the following: A. Project based learning. This method is going to allow us to: integrate different subjects; organize activities around a common aim; combine content learning and development of skills to learn to learn in a positive way; encourage creativity, individual responsibility, cooperative work, critical ability, decision making, efficiency and facility to express their personal opinions. B. European dimension. To foster the use of different languages working in international settings is going to have an impact on our pupils as it will increase their motivation, it will improve their language and communication skills as well as team work. So, we believe that these aspects will result in an increase of motivation and a decrease of the rate of absenteeism. To carry out these tasks we need an appropriate training for each teacher according to their profile and future role in the school organisation. We have established six profiles. A. Language teachers who want to update their methodology. B. Teachers who have already been trained in CLIL methodology because they are part of the Bilingual Education Team but want to learn about new methodologies which can be useful to implement a Project Based Methodology. C. Teachers who want to be trained in CLIL methodology because although they are part of the Bilingual Education Team, they do not have enough experience and want to improve this methodology. D. Teacher who are not part of the Bilingual Education Team but want to join it. Also, teachers who want to implement a Multi-language Project (Spanish-English-French). E. Teachers who do not belong to the Bilingual Education Team but are interested in Project Based Methodology. F. Members of the Management Team of our school who want to update their tools to prevent school absenteeism and dropping out of school.. The implementation of this project involves 17 movilities within the European Union. The Budget is 40.480 €. Teacher will be chosen according to the following criteria: 20% Teachers who are fixed member of the staff. 10%Teachers who fit in one of the profiles 20%Teachers who have justified the need of the training. 25%Teachers who commit to apply the new methodology in class. 25%Teachers who commit to spread the knowledge they acquire. All teachers must commit to apply the methodology in the classroom that will have and impact on following members of the school community: Teachers. They will acquire new skills to improve cooperation and language competence. Pupils. They will also improve their language competence, motivation, academic results, coexistence and as a consequence the absenteeism and dropping out rates will decrease. The training project has been designed to take place during one year but its results will spread in the long term. Teachers commit to spread their experience using different ways: staff meetings, workshops, media, social media and Internet not only at a local level but also at state level.
