We are passionate about history, and during our events to popularise history and tradition, we noticed how important it is to choose the right method to employ in work with a specific group of recipients. Although most people find history interesting, it is sometimes hard to intrigue a potential recipient to explore it further. Therefore, the main objective of the project is to share the tools and methods for active and creative ways of showing the history by the use of games and activities from antiquity and the Middle Ages as a tool for non-formal education. The additional objectives are: - Meeting other fans of medieval history and learning about their activities in their country - Learning what historical festivals in their countries look like and what elements they consist of - Learning what are traditional games from this period in particular country - How they promote their events in the local community - Explore the similarities and differences in how we approach those aspects - The exchange of experience and the joint effort in creating the event which would summarize our exchange, "a festival of games" for the local community here in Poland. The youth exchange is involved 5 countries: Poland, Italy, Hungary, Romania and Ukraine. Each country will arrive after 4 participants and leaders. In total, 25 people will attend. The people invited to participate in the project will be those who share our passion for history, take part in and promote historical re-enactment in their local communities by participating in historical festivals and organizing meetings on history and traditions in their countries. The place for the exchange (Kwiatkówek, Łódź Voivodeship), is a place with long history, there is an open air museum and a settlement. It is a great place for a meeting and joint implementation for history lovers. The types of activities selected cover the ones that each group uses in their own organization. For us, people involved in the re-enactment movement, the important thing is to transfer the way of living in historical times to contemporary times. One of the methods employed is mass meeting - called “wiec”; splitting into groups in which we will work in the context of "guilds" with a "master" - the leader in each group; using equipment - replicas of tools from that period and historical costumes (role play); joint effort in creating our historical encampment. During the exchange we are going to share our experience from events in each of the participants’ countries, together we will create the concept of the event for the local community, we will present games to partner groups, take some time to learn how to play them, and finally we will organize a promotional campaign of the event as a final product of the exchange. We will learn about other countries and cultures during evening sessions. In the aftermath of the exchange we intend to keep in touch with the re-enactment groups and maintain further international cooperation. The initial joint works on the project have already resulted in ideas for further action in other countries to spread the knowledge of history in the field of games of the ancient and medieval times. The acquired knowledge we want to share with the local community in the organization of our own 2-day event where we will present the games and have fun with the partner countries. The event will be documented with a short film, which will also present the rules of the games and it will be placed on partners’ websites, social networking, youtube, local television. Each partner will also present these games as a method of non-formal history teaching, in the course of their meetings and while participating in historical festivals in their own countries. The impact on the participants In European countries, a growing interest in the history and curiosity about how people lived in earlier times is being noted. There are more and more groups of historical re-enactment, picnics and historical fairs are held, important historical events reconstructed. These activities attract a lot of young people, because they allow them to experience history. Such meetings are very valuable and remembered longer by the participants. The knowledge acquired will also allow participants to explore the historical and cultural similarities that will consolidate the common historical identity of Europe. We believe that participation in the project itself will show participants how to initiate and carry out international projects for youth, during which you can gain knowledge on the subject we are interested in and meet people who despite coming from different cultures share the same passions and interests.
