Alzheimer'ı UNUTMA
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our project has been designed for the 11th and 12th grade students at the department of Patient Care and Elderly Care of Ataturk Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in Erzincan. Our project has been planned to be implemented in 2 flows.-1st flow: It will be implemented with respect to the 'Care of Alzheimer patients' by the Ataturk Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School between 06.03.2017 and 21.03.2017, in cooperation with Ikafalvi Farkas Bela Reformatus Idösek institution located in Budapest, Hungary, together with 18 participants and 1 attendant. -2nd flow: It will be implemented with respect to the 'Care of Alzheimer patients' by our institution between 01.04.12017 and 16.04.2017, in cooperation with Ikafalvi Farkas Bela Reformatus Idösek institution located in Budapest, Hungary, together with 18 participants and 1 attendant. With the technological developments in the medical field, and the expansion of the healthcare services, the birth rates and mortalities have rapidly decreased, and the average lifetime and therefore, the elderly population have got increased. For our country, the ratio of the population over 65 years of age to the total population was 3.9% in 1935, while it is reported that it is currently 4,5% today, and is expected to increase up to 6% 2030. According to the data from World Health Organization, an increase by 95% is expected in the populations of the developing countries in the upcoming years, while it is estimated that the elderly population will increase by 240%. Such increase in the elderly population makes the Alzheimer disease a frequently seen disorder. Almost 18 millions of people are affected by the dementia all over the world. Considering the demographic characteristics and changes, it is estimated that it will be doubled by 2025, and affect approximately 34 million people ( http://www.istanbulsaglik.gov.tr/w/tez/pdf/psikiyatri/dr_murat_altin.pdf ) In our country, the number of patients with Alzheimer disease is increasing every day and so the need for specialists in this field. In this era, the issues of human health and healthy aging become more important every day, and therefore, the number of specialist personnel to be employed in this field is rapidly increasing. Our project proceeding in parallel with the subjects of healthy aging and lifelong health as specified in the health objectives of the EU for 2020 will bring personnel with internationally recognized qualifications to the sector. As is known, the Eastern Anatolia Region, where our school is also located, has been going through hard times both culturally and politically, and this period has also negative impacts on our students. As most of the population in the region is engaged in forest keeping and farming, the lack of diversity of professions have caused our students not to adopt a vision for themselves. It would be a huge gain on the part of our students, if they could get out of this geography and get to know a different culture. Many adolescents, particularly the girls, living in the region cannot continue to study at school after having received the primary education. Our project will play a major role in encouraging and motivating our adolescents studying under difficult conditions here. If our project is accepted by the National Agency, it will be a major step taken in the way to make our students to become fully equipped, confident, and successful individuals both in their careers and social lives. Our participants will find out the cultural differences by observing a European city. With the implementation of our project, there will be had an opinion about the Erasmus+ Project particularly in our region, and also in surrounding cities, and with the increasing participation in the project, the visions of both our institutions, and our students will be broadened. Taking the education out of routine and ensuring that our students learn observing and experiencing on-site will help us adopt an international quality in education through the observation and exchange of the teaching methods applicable in Europe by our teachers.
