ALTSOLEM – Applied Language Training for Speakers of Other Languages through E-and M-learning

The objectif of “ALTOSOLEM”, is to develop an easy-to-use, flexible, authorable and inexpensivee-and m-learning sofware for national language training in workplace settings.The project will make use of existing projects, products and experience, it will produce an e-and m-learning software for the use of national language training(M-learning describes the use of mobile devices, such as mobile phones, for the purpose of learning). A best practice Manual will be developd, which will help tutors to intergrade the Software tools in their teaching ahd make best use of it. The software and the Manual will be developed in the five participating languages:English, Italian, German,Bulgarian and Latvian.Three reports form further milestones in the project. 1)The Inventory Report will specify the user’s and target groups’ needs and identify available pedagogical and technical approaches, 2)the Customisation Report will outline in detail the objectives, design and content of the Software, the Best Practice Manual and the 3)Adaptation Report will identify the adaptation potential of the Software to other content, settings and languages.The project will also focus on the acquisition of the national language by speakers of others languages, which is a vital since proficiency in the national language is prerequisite for a succesful intergration into society and labour market. Users will be language tutors. Each country will focus on one target group, which lacks national language skills: Hospital clinic staff in the U.K. construction workers in Italy, supermarkets employees in Latvia, young immigrants in Hamburg, employees from abroad in Bulgaria.
