Agrotourism in Europe: how to revitalize rural areas
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our project “Agrotourism in Europe: how to revitalize rural areas” is a training course with a 9-day programme for 32 youth workers from different European countries ((Italy, Romania, Portugal y Spain) that are willing to learn about sustainable agrotourism proposals and motivated to create new opportunities for young people. One of the main challenges of our area is to revitalize the rural areas, by fostering coherent growth plans that impact positively on employability and at the same time create social cohesion. We consider that capacity building is one of the most important instruments to successfully carry out this strategy among youth, thus, it’s of major importance to design learning processes adapted to both practical needs of the labour market and the young rural population. Our course aims to widen our knowledge of sustainable rural development in order to improve the agro-touristic models we have in our region and the expected impact is to foster inter-organizational cooperation at local, regional and European level, and to raise awareness of the importance of rural areas as a source of wisdom of traditions, culture and environmental protection. The methodology of the course will be based on experiential and participative learning, combining training sessions of theoretical content with practical methods. We’ll learn from real cases of agritourism development in the region of Cantabria, and exchange of best practices that we can implement in our context and daily work.
