ADEM - Qualification of multipliers training specialists for the care of people with dementia

In most European countries, there were few pragmatic approaches for the formation of professionals in the field of care for people suffering from dementia. The state of research and the knowledge about the causes and manifestations of dementia is well developed in all countries. But there are few concepts for the dealing with people with dementia, which are consistent and provide an appropriate basis for the training of professionals. The project had the objective to adapt these existing pragmatic concepts for the use in the five European countries participating in the project (Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Spain and Germany), to adjust these concepts culturally and to implement them in different places and for different levels in the respective educational system of the country. The formation of professionals who deal with this problem is settled at different positions of the education system in the respective countries and also at different levels. In the project private schools, technical schools, colleges and universities were involved. The project has taken regard of those positions in the respective educational systems in each country. The project has developed a European standard for the formation of professionals in the field of care for people suffering from dementia, taking into account the diversity of the regional situation in Europe. It is likely that this standard will become widespread in the participating countries. The result helps to increase the comparability of vocational training in the social and health sectors in several European countries. This is a contribution to enhancing the mobility of professionals in these sectors.
