This project will be specifically carried out by members of the SWASSH (South Wales Association of Special School Headteachers) Group. This group is working together with the Welsh Government to develop a curriculum that is innovative and inspirational but fit for purpose in the context of an Additional Needs School. We anticipate that this project is an opportunity for senior leaders and classroom teachers to undergo training by experts in the field of ALN with experience in raising standards through curriculum change and specifically in areas of EU priority. This application identifies a structured programme of learning for teaching staff supporting the priorities highlighted by the education minister. As a result of this project we aim to improve The identified EU priorities for staff as highlighted in the Erasumus+ Programme 2016 include:- improved competences, linked to their professional profiles - broader understanding of practices, policies and systems in education, training or youth across countries- increased capacity to trigger changes in terms of modernisation and international opening within their educational organisations4 training courses in Sweden and The Netherlands will develop teacher competences, provide training in curriculum design and help staff develop strategies for raising achievement in Special Schools. In Sweden - Staff will learn more about ‘särskola’ is the Swedish curriculum programme for pupils with severe learning disabilities and how this programme is closely linked to or included in general school activities. In the Netherlands - Policy has led to the decrease tin he number of ALN pupils in special schools and focus on integration into mainstream education. There has been an emphasis on improving the resources in mainstream schools in order to stimulate improved co-operation between mainstream and ALN schools.The Welsh Government plan to work together with the SWASSH group means we can improve the quality of the curriculum across Wales and attainment. Working together consortium members will learn from experts in Sweden and The Netherlands who will provide a fresh look at the way in which e approach our curriculum. In a series of planned meetings the group will come together to share experiences and support each other in future development and events will be held at the end of the both years to encourage widening participation amongst schools across Wales.
