Adaption, transfer and dissemination of a modular educational concept for nursing staff who look after young people in need of care in in- and outpatients units
The analysis of educational structures and ambulant and stationary care structures for young people in need of care within the completed LdV partnership project „Young Care“ brought up that these hardly exist in Romania and Poland. Predominantly family members nurse and care for these people since residential care facilities are too expensive for most families. In these countries additional care structures are going to be established in order to face the social development (increasing occupation of women, increasing number of single households and emigration of working population). In Germany also there is a lack of care structures, because “Young Care” has not yet been brought into focus. In all countries the care of young people is based on models of geriatric and/or general medical care. Therefore models have to be developed which consider the aspects of the special living conditions and needs of young people in the need of care as well as the mental and physical requirements for the nursing staff within a multidisciplinary and psychosocial care. In all partner countries the approach “outpatient rather than inpatient” can only be guaranteed in the future when more staff caring for these young people is further trained and qualified. This especially concerns ambulant care of young people, since in all countries the need for outpatient and home care will continuously increase until 2020. Adequate care for these people will only be possible if in the partner countries the existing valid care concepts and accredited vocational training concepts are complemented with additional skills and qualifications. This requires an adapted modular educational concept, which considers the level of qualification of nursing staff in the countries, the demands on the staff, the characteristics and needs of the people being cared for and the educational structures as well as the social conditions. This concept had to be tested and transferred into the occupational vocational structure of nursing staff in the partner countries.
