“Actors of Transition – Spreading Sustainability in Europe“ is an international training course on active EU citizenship, climate change und environmental protection. The goal is to qualify 24 youth workers from Armenia, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Moldova, Poland, Serbia and Spain as multipliers of sustainable development and active participation.
After completion of the course, the participants will be able to communicate the concept of sustainability and the limits of economic growth to young people, and to empower them to realize own projects on sustainable development in their local contexts.
The qualification course consists of four consecutive elements, including three trainings and a project implementation period:
In the first part, the youth workers study basic economic concepts and best-practice examples of sustainable living. They develop their own vision for a post-growth society and design a project that contributes to that vision, such as workshops on sustainability at schools in rural areas or creative action days in urban areas on the value of regional products. In a second training, the participants are introduced to project management and effective educational methods on sustainability. Thereupon they specify their project ideas. In the next step, they return to their home countries and put their ideas into practice in a three-month project implementation period. In doing so, they are supported by experienced mentors. After that, all participants come together for a final meeting in which they reflect their learning process and collect approved didactic and pedagogical tools. In addition, they outline concrete steps how to continue their involvement as active citizens and actors of transition.
With this project the partners react to climate change and the financial crisis which increasingly threatens the social and political cohesion in Europe. The aspired result is, to increase the employability of the youth workers, to strengthen their role as active European citizens and hence to multiply the idea of sustainable development and solidarity in Europe. In the long term, “Actors of Transition” thus works against the drifting apart of Europe and the destruction of our sources of life. It shows how an inclusive, sustainable and solidary coexistence in Europe could look like.
