Active Citizens Learning Through Theatre - Social Solidarity on Stage

This partnership involves five organisations from Western & Eastern Europe, with diverse and strong areas of relevant expertise, committed to empowering disadvantaged and older learners through learner-led, inclusive and creative approaches to ‘active learning for active citizenship’. We agreed on ‘Active Citizens for Social Solidarity’ as a timely & important topic to our society and to our learners, and to develop theatre as a tool & project focus. Plays will be performed by all partners, locally and in a final joint production, and be filmed for dissemination. The project will provide educational opportunities for a mixed group of learners with a focus on disadvantaged learners (unemployed, on low income, low qualifications, from disadvantaged areas, old & young not in work or education, etc) and promote active aging for older people too. Learners will be supported to develop theatre sketches based on their experiences as active citizens, highlighting their issues, concerns and agency. They do this in local teams and at the EU project level, by participating in project meetings. The local inputs will be filmed and shared to inform project meetings, where the main outcome will be filmed, to be shared with each local team. In this way, the joint production will gradually develop. Learners will be supported to take on acting and non-acting roles, and thus develop different types of skills, but most importantly, they will experience intercultural cooperation and promote 'social solidarity' in Europe.Staff & tutors facilitate, document and evaluate these processes, exchange tools & methods for active learning through theatre, produce a trainer handbook on theatre as a tool; coordinate the development of local and joint performances, and ensure effective dissemination.
