"AMISS proposal aims at establishing a collaborative network that will be able to acquire international visibility by providing theoretical and applicative advancements in the field of the active and passive microwave imaging systems. The proposal involves three EU Members and Associate Countries (Italy, The Netherlands, Turkey) and 4 partners from Third countries (Russia, Ukraine, Brazil) whose expertise is complementary in achieving the objective of the proposal and in ensuring a significant transfer of knowledge. Two main lines of activities will be developed during the project. The first line of research is concerned with the development, characterization and performance evaluation of new systems, sensors and configurations able to mitigate the clutter, and increase information content and redundancy, for both passive and active microwave imaging. The second line of research is concerned with the development, implementation and performance evaluation of processing tools. State-of-the-Art processing tools will be adapted to the novel instrumentation developed in the first line and to work in electromagnetically complex scenarios encountered in emerging application domains. The effectiveness of the research and exchange activities, and of the related results will be tested by considering two specific application fields. The first one is concerned with the Ground Penetrating Radar for subsurface sensing and critical infrastructure diagnostics, while the other one regards passive and active microwave imaging systems for security applications."
