ACROSS THE BORDERS
Start date: Aug 1, 2014, End date: Jan 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project ACROSS THE BORDERS involved two foreign volunteers spending 12 months from October 2014 to September 2015 in Alliance Francaise Brno (AF) and Šiška, o.s. in Brno, Czech Republic. Slovenian volunteer ( 25 years old ) assisted to the teachers of Šiška Forest Kindergarten. She got known the practical management and running of the organization. She was encouraged to implement her ideas and organize her own activities for children and the public, which was implemented mainly through her two miniprojects. French volunteer (25 years old) helped employees of Alliance Francaise with regular activities and operations, updated web pages, assisted in cultural events ( taking photographs , installations and exhibitions, etc.). He also organized his own activities - movie and board games evenings. Throughout their service volunteers developed their sense of initiative, communication skills and entrepreneurial attitudes. SVČ Lužánky as the coordinating organization supported the learning process, working together to increase the visibility and dissemination of project results and experiences in order to create new partnerships and related activities. The project included two newly accredited host organizations with which we are linked by personal ties and experience with EVS. Environment of the organizations is open to volunteers who are on the EVS in Lužánky as well as the public - there is space for the implementation of other activities or presentation of new projects. Volunteers learned about the specific cultures - whether it's French culture presented and lived in the Czech environment or culture of multigenerational community around the forest kindergarten, environmental education and permaculture. The project "Across the Borders" gave to a pair of volunteers opportunities for personal development and the acquisition of practical skills that improved their chances in the labor market and the potential of the initiative. Volunteers got to know the daily operation of the host organizations, the practical side of their business and organizational background. They were introduced to the basics of project management, acquired specific skills and were encouraged to implement their own projects. Due to the nature of activities and language course that introduced the basics of Czech language were the volunteers in direct contact with clients. They learned about Czech culture and presented the culture of their own to the clients and to the public. In common projects with volunteers hosted by SVČ Lužánky they had the opportunity to experience working in an international team, with mainly English as working language. The staff and clients of organizations and the general public will had the opportunity to expand their knowledge of other cultures through personal contact with the volunteer. For children in the forest kindergarten and young people attending courses and media library of AF was the presence of a young person from abroad example of mobility as a natural part of EU policy.
