“Able like you” is an EVS project that will take place in Palermo for 18 months and it will involve 20 volunteers from four different European countries: Hungary, Estonia, Spain, France. The volunteers will be involved in different centres that work with people (children and adults) with physical and mental disorders therefore giving a personal contribution to an important human and social context often neglected. The project's idea stems from an awareness that people with disabilities is a person like any other, and it aims to reduce their exclusion. For this reason CESIE wishes, thanks to the help of volunteers, to be the protagonist of a social integration of these people that due to their condition are often marginalized and therefore unable to contribute actively to the growth of an inclusive society. Therefore “Able like you” is an opportunity for the volunteers and for the organizations that are involved in it, to be part of a social learning process that will permit an inclusive society. The volunteers, with the help of professional staff of the centres, will carry outdoor and indoor activities through formal and non-formal methodologies so the people in the centres can become more active citizens and the volunteers will improve personally and professionally in order to improve their employment opportunities.Learning methods for the volunteers will be non-formal and will include active and participatory learning - "learning by doing" - and collaborative and cooperative learning in a group. The presence of the volunteers is an incentive to create a network between the centres so they can help each other and sharing experiences and knowledge. The project has developed from CESIE's work at local level and from CESIE's previous projects that gave the opportunity to understand how it is important be active in society.
