A World of Harmony: Art and Science
A World of Harmony: Art and Science
Start date: Sep 1, 2014,
End date: Aug 31, 2017
PROJECT
FINISHED
Although most of our students think that science and art are separate branches, throughout history, science and art reflected similar values and parallel tools and methods. While studying topics like “How science shaped architecture from Stonehenge to contemporary buildings”, “How mathematical principles had impact on decorative design”, or “How Science helps Art to withstand time”, they will notice two important components of the culture of a society; science and art are closely related. Besides we need to develop new cultural and educational environments in which art and science will work together since the contemporary world needs innovation in an increasingly complex way of thinking.
The partnership will be based on cultural interaction and Exchange, aimed at promoting friendship and tolerance. Students will share their knowledge with other mates from many different European countries, improve their English skills and the ability to make a presentation in front of the public. The results of the researches done in international teams with peers will strengthen mutual friendship. All these will contribute to enhance their self-esteem and their sense of belonging to a larger community, Europe. Their ICT skills will be improved, as they will prepare their presentations and communicate with tutor teachers and foreign mates via internet (email, Twinspace, Skype, Facebook group, ...)
Partnership includes 5 high schools from France, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Turkey. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Maths, Geometry, Art , ICT, Literature and English teachers will work in an interdisciplinary way especially during the Project meetings.
Students will be hosted in families and this will be a great chance for eveybody because both hosts and guests will learn a lot from each other and share food, habits and culture. Moreover ethnical meals will be organized and eveybody will have the opportunity to taste flavors typical from every town or country. At the same time, visits to the main cultural heritages, Science and Art walks in the towns, and conferences will be organized.
During the meetings, there will be working sessions where students from all the countries will prepare final presentations that they will show to teachers and other students so that everybody will have a global idea of all the work accomplished so far. In this way, sudents will gain some skills that they won’t be able to achieve in regular classroom teaching.
At the end of the Project, a CD and a booklet will be produced as an outcome. A pdf file of the booklet will be set as a link in school websites.
