Recent events, like the asylum crisis, challenge the concrete interpretation of EU values. The choices the European Union will have to make, will highly impact our future. Therefore, citizens need to be aware of what is at stake. This projects wants to contribute to more EU awareness and European citizenship.School education plays a major role in European citizenship education. That is why this project aims to provide (future) teachers with knowledge, didactic skills, attitudes and tools to acquire the competence to teach about Europe in the classroom in a high quality way. This project provides (future) teachers with general expertise on how to teach about Europe in the classroom by means of a workshop for students in teacher training in Belgium and an update and extension of the website www.europaindeklas.be. The project spreads expertise on Europe education, applied on the theme 'Refugees in Europe', through workshops for pupils, training-based events for teachers and didactic material. Correct and balanced information on the theme that is put in a wider and more contextualised picture must contribute to more awareness on the importance of the decisions the EU has to make to tackle its challenges, and to a more inclusive and cohesive society. Civil society organisations have the ability to play a strong role in the European democracy and to contribute to the debate about the EU's challenges. They can also promote European citizenship. That is why Ryckevelde wants cso's to develop the competence to participate at EU level. A thematic Round Table event and the website www.europainhetmiddenveld.be provides them with applied knowledge and tools to implement this ambition.The in-depth and sustainable approach of Ryckevelde ensures a work programme that meets the needs of and has a clear impact on the target groups and beyond: professionalization of ‘Europe education', a stronger European dimension of cso's and more European citizenship.
