A shared cultural heritage
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Nov 30, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Following the awareness campaign we led locally on matters dealing with cultural heritage, Fitou MJC wishes to promote cross-cultural learning and youth education to European citizenship by focusing on the European dimension of their common and shared heritage. To reach this goal Fitou MJC and its European partners will organize a multilateral exchange for youths aged 14 to 17 ( 5 youths and one youth worker per country ) from different backgrounds (social, geographic, cultural…). This exchange will mostly concern local and European heritage in order to foster awareness of belonging to the European society , its history and its future . This exchange will tackle such notions as culture, identity, prejudices , the preservation and transmission of the European heritage. It will also enable the participants to make the founding values of the European project attached to living together (tolerance, open-mindedness; respect of diversity, solidarity) their own and to strengthen active citizenship through choices and deeds towards tomorrow’s Europe, both at a local and European level. The exchange will take place from 10th to 18th of July 2015 in the district of Fitou .It will be run jointly and on equal terms by the multicultural youth workers’ team and the partner organizations involved in every single phase of the project right from the beginning . The programme of the exchange based on active and dynamic methods of non formal education can be summarized in three key steps : feeling, thinking, acting . The pedagogical process will mostly alternate between seminars, exchanges and debates as well as activities promoting a concrete experience at an emotional level (role plays , simulation exercises...)and creative activities focusing on the young ‘s artistic and cultural expressions together with activities to bring them into contact with the local people and discover their culture . The methodology focusing on the active participation of the youths , offers a space for dialogue and experimentation which will make the acquisition of key knowledge and skills, as far as personal emancipation is concerned, easier . These acquisitions will have an impact on the young people’s social and professional prospects . As for the partners involved, this project is the first step towards the construction to future cooperation projects which will hopefully be run on the long term in order to develop the young’s European mobility . The visibility we will grant this project and the Erasmus + programme will stimulate the interest and the motivation of the local actors to support and develop international activities for the youths and those in charge of them .
