A Cross-Cultural Curriculum for European Regions and their Students

The project will initialise a cross-cultural curriculum, which involves 'action research' by students in the partner countries. The project is targeted at final year and postgraduate students doing business studies, economics and language courses and is aimed at increasing knowledge about and understanding of business and trade in other economic and cultural settings. The overall aim is to improve the cross-cultural content of undergraduate/postgraduate business, economics and language syllabuses. Each project partner will produce a report detailing existing teaching and learning material for cross-cultural purposes. Two international student teams will be selected to visit each of the project partners where they will help to design, test and report on a programme of international teaching workshops that will involve visits to local businesses. Students will be trained to assess intercultural issues/barriers that impact on effective business transactions between partners in different countries. Information gleaned from this country-based and business-based action research and appropriated through innovative methods such as video diaries, will inform the project's development of a cross-cultural curriculum for business, economic and language students in each of the partner countries that is sensitive to the cultural contexts of business transactions. The project deliverables will consist of two sets of teaching materials that will be developed by the project partners on the basis of students' reports. Teaching material will be available in variable formats and in the languages of the project partners, with a further summary in English, via the project website. A CD-Rom of edited highlights and findings from the action research will also be produced.
