New Citizens of the EU
Start date: Sep 1, 2012,

This proposal aims at tackling the need to develop learning activities related to the EU in high schools. The importance of the EU in the daily life of its citizens has pushed primary and secondary schools to reform their formative programs, making the study of the EU more prominent. The first objective of the proposed activities concerns the promotion of knowledge about the EU amongst teachers. At the same time, Europe should definitely become the inevitable horizon of action of the high school students. Thus, the second objective of the proposed activities is to develop their sense of EU citizenship. Third, the proposed activities aim at building a group of university students that will be able to teach the EU in high schools, making them real “ambassadors” of the EU integration process amongst the youngest generations. Fourth, the aim of the proposed activities is to produce original teaching materials that can be useful to replicate the didactic activities in future years. To reach these objectives, the activities will be structure in a course for high school teachers, a training course for university students, a series of lectures in the high schools, a series of study visits to Alcide De Gasperi’s house near Trento. The university, the high school system, the Fondazione Trentina Alcide De Gasperi, and the Museum “House of Alcide de Gasperi” will be involved in the teaching activities and in the dissemination phase of the project, making it possible to reach people that are usually not in contact with EU politics and debates, involving the civil society and contributing to the creation of the new EU citizens.
